Have you ever been caught mid-stride or mid-sentence wondering what that beautiful thing in the air is; that's producing the most pleasant waves of happiness within you? Something dancing gently about you, like a tiny bubble, here now, gone next and there again! Like the fragrance of roses in the distance, tickling your senses and changing your course till you catch sight of the enchanting bloom, elegant and demure, that tempted you so...
Ah! It's music after all...someone's playing in the warmth of their home...to a special audience, perhaps? Or for the sheer joy of it...
There's a secret thrill in hearing the music sung or played by another, unbeknownst to them. Of anticipating the next note, hanging delicately off the tips of the last one, and to be rewarded with an unexpectedly exquisite variation instead. Sigh...if only I didn't have a desitination to conitune on to...if only they hadn't stopped playing...
Sweet melodies...~

This post reminded me of something I wrote back in high school... hopefully my writing has improved some since then, but the spirit behind it held the same rapture for music you've so beautifully expressed.
How useful are words? To what extent can they truly express all that we feel? At times they are moving and even encouraging, but often they are inadequate. Where words leave you yearning, to make all understood, music can fill the gaps.
Music drifting through the air can conjure more feelings than words will ever be capable of. Both can affect you in profound ways, but only music can vibrate through your body and light your soul. Once you become attached to it, there is nothing else that can satisfy that part of you.
There is nothing so sweet as music. The feel of those soft notes under your fingers— you, its creator! You play what you cannot say and are lost in a magical trance. Indeed, nothing is so sweet as music.
This is oh! so beautiful! :) Truly, you make music with words! :) Thanks for sharing!
We read the following quote today in our Ruhi study circle, and this made me think immediately of your post. ;) 'Abdu'l-Bahá's words here are so eloquently put.
"The art of music is divine and effective. It is the food of the soul and spirit. Through the power and charm of music the spirit of man is uplifted." -'Abdu'l-Bahá
How very true. Music is truly very uplifting. :)
hmm...ur right, bb, that words often fail to affect and/or convey as profoundly as music can. interesting. had never thought of that.
in all the posts i've been reading now-a-days, for instance, on all your blogs, i often feel like i don't quite get exactly what you mean...words just fail to be sufficient.
Adu, perhaps that means I should be singing or playing music all the time instead of speaking -- maybe then I'd make more sense? ;)
Would love to get your input on any of my blogs, questions for clarification or thoughts on how I can be clearer... 8&20 and I were talking today about how I tend to think tangentially, hard for me to avoid, and probably hard for others to understand.
Sometimes it's like calling in on a meeting and trying to follow the slides you can't see; context is huge! Also, nothing beats face-to-face in that sense; time spent understanding the trajectories of each person's thought person can be soo valuable at a later time when all we have is his/her blog posts. Hence, I say, we all spend more time drinking tea together...;)
indeed.
and hullo, bright butterfly - learn something. context is huge, please quote within context :).
fyi...when i said all your blogs, i meant the blogs of all you people. i wasn't targetting bb in particular :p discussions on spiritual matters are hard for me to follow because many concepts are hard to define and mean different things to different people.
music on the other hand, and that's the point of this post, can speak directly to your "soul". you don't have to get caught up in the exact semantics to be profoundly moved.
'...many concepts are hard to define and mean different things to different people.'- is exactly why I enjoy blogging so much and why your comments are most enlivening and thought-provoking. If not how would I even hope to widen my perspective? How can one claim to have conviction if that conviction cannot stand up to the scrutiny of a voice of dissent?
On music, it seems we are all agreed :). On that 'note', have a good night my dears!
uff...we're all agreeing :) warm, fuzzy feelings :)
hey this is a huge no. of comments yaar.
yaar... go find a chat room instead :).
good night, all ye blessed souls :).
warm, fuzzy,
